“HOW ARE YOU TODAY?” Bracelets to help start a conversation

Singapore, 2 July 2018 – Samaritans of Singapore (SOS), a non-profit suicide prevention agency, is pleased to announce the launch of a bracelet collection today in partnership with The Mindful Company (TMC), a Singapore-based jewellery brand.

The collection, called “How are you today?”, consists of four nylon cord bracelets in different colours, with each bracelet featuring a stainless steel pendant with the words “How are you today” crafted into a delicate, circular loop. These unisex bracelets are designed to encourage individuals to check in with people in their lives, especially those whom they think are going through a tough time.

By simply asking “How are you today?”, anyone can reach out to someone to ensure they feel supported. Knowing that someone is there for you can make all the difference.

“As the first line of defence, all of us can and should start doing something every day, in our own little ways. It can be as simple as asking someone ‘How are you?’,” says Ms Christine Wong, Executive Director of SOS. “We have chosen to partner with a purpose-driven jewellery label to create something that goes beyond aesthetic charm, to provide the wearer with a subtle reminder that there will always be someone who cares.”

“We are excited to be working with SOS to help promote this message in Singapore—that we are all capable of starting life-changing conversations every day,” says Ms Ciara Yeo, Co-Founder of TMC. “‘How are you today?’ reminds us that everyone goes through challenging times. I’ve yet to meet someone who has led a perfect life. What makes a difference is having someone check in and remind you that they are there for you. Not to judge or tell you what to do, but to just be a listening ear and to just be there.”

Simple and subtle, these bracelets serve as a meaningful reminder for individuals to check in with their loved ones—and themselves. We all need support, too. Each bracelet comes with a mini “cheat sheet” featuring six easy tips on how to start a conversation—showing everyone that we are all capable of starting a potentially life-changing conversation and making a difference.

SOS has also produced a complementary video directed by local filmmaker Jacky Lee on the power of asking “How are you today?” in everyday scenarios. The video can be found on SOS’s Facebook page and TMC’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

The bracelets will be available on The Mindful Company’s website, www.mindful-company.com, from 2 July 2018. Available in four colour combinations (classic silver and charcoal; classic silver and sky blue; classic rose gold and sea green; and classic rose gold and blush), each bracelet costs SGD 39, of which SGD 10 from the sale of each bracelet will go to SOS to fund its community outreach initiatives.

A number of personalities have pledged their support for the campaign, including Irene Ang, founder and CEO of Fly Entertainment; Tan Kheng Hua, veteran actress and theatre performer; Daphne Khoo, musician; Oon Shu An, actress; and Charmian Tan, TV and radio presenter.
