We can never predict who will call your helpline, but we can be better prepared if someone in suicide crisis calls. This workshop aims to equip individuals manning a hotline to better manage suicide crisis calls and support the caller in distress. This workshop also equips learners with skills to strike rapport quickly with callers through active listening and empathetic responses, ask good questions for situational assessment, and structure a phone conversation for effectiveness.
In this workshop, you will learn to:
1. Use empathetic responses to build rapport
2. Use open-ended questions for case formulation and assessment
3. Apply PADI model to structure phone conversations
4. Use suicide question to inquire about suicide thoughts
5. Identify suicide risk using risk assessment tool
6. Match community resources or safety plans according to risk level
